Problem

The existing style of Music Unites was exemplary branding for a youth-oriented classical music festival: treble-clef logo, abstracted geometric shapes evoking music instruments, and a bright, high-contrast color scheme. While initially achieving its goals, this style was struggling to catch up with the expanding ambition of the project. By 2024, the festival had grown enough to target a more mature and sophisticated audience, expand its focus to new art forms, produce its biggest event lineup yet, and secure critical support from major cultural institutions. The original visual identity no longer matched that scale.

Solution

The goal behind the redesign was to build an instantly recognizable and highly adaptable visual system that embodies the festival's values and highlights its matured identity. At the center of this rebrand is the new logotype — sharp, easily readable, and detached from clichés that follow projects in this sphere. The choice of the abstract symbol that connects the two words in the logotype is deliberate rather than purely decorative, as it evokes the glissando symbol — the notation marking a continuous slide between pitches. With this quiet nod to music, the new symbol conceptually mirrors the underlying values of the project while also presenting the festival in a clean and memorable manner. The core visual material of the festival's updated identity is a set of classical paintings infused with bright, almost neon colors and bold typography. This attempt to recontextualize classical artworks not only creates a unified and unique visual system but also emphasizes the festival's expanding focus from music to a broader selection of art forms. Set against a dark-grey background, these bright, saturated artworks form a new, captivating visual identity that translates seamlessly to both physical and digital mediums.

Outcome

This redesign helped successfully reintroduce Music Unites in the spring of 2024. The new visual system has shown great adaptability, as 15 major events were promoted in various mediums — social media, digital advertising, and print promotional products ranging from A5 flyers to 10 sq. m. banners — all in a cohesive and unified style. A lineup of merchandise was also introduced, giving the festival and its new branding a presence outside event locations. This new identity has clearly resonated with the audience, as the redesign has coincided with the festival tripling its attendee numbers.
